Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a specific, hands-on treatment which focuses on gentle, refined, sustained stretching techniques, addressing connective tissue called fascia.

Fascia is the connective tissue which is found throughout the body. It is a fibrous, and collagenous tissue which covers all organs, muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels. The tissue offers protection, support, elasticity, shape and resiliency to involved structures. Restrictions or injury to the fascia (through trauma or chronic holding patterns related to stress) can create pain or dysfunction throughout the body, even affecting areas unrelated to the original injury site. The collagen fibers adhere to inappropriate surrounding structures in an attempt to heal the area, while, at times, actually creating a restriction in the tissue. The craniosacral system, or dural system, is the deepest of all fascia. It surrounds the brain and spinal cord, and impacts all other parts of the body, and is directly affected by what goes on throughout the body.

MFR Treatment involves a hands-on approach to “release” the restrictions and create a more balanced structural alignment of the body. The body is a dynamic, self-correcting mechanism and needs equilibrium to facilitate healing and optimum function. A therapist skilled in MFR techniques, and craniosacral therapy can use these techniques to quickly evaluate the patient and then proceed with treatment based on this evaluation. Craniosacral evaluation becomes treatment and treatment becomes evaluation, just as we experience with all myofascial techniques.
